Replica Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra shows a new design direction for Omega. The small dial is the new black in Aqua Terra and all 2024 Aqua Terras are equipped with an elegantly decorated small second complication and, in keeping with the spirit of the times, all watches are also METAS-certified Master Chronometer watches.

The release of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in 2002 evoked a lot of emotions both for and against. Aqua Terra was a clear departure from the Seamaster’s pure diving watch essence. From the beginning, the watch collection had a more elegant approach to the water element. It was designed on water, not under it.

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra draws deeply from Omega’s own maritime past and marine chronometer. Aqua Terra’s subtly balanced division between sportiness and luxury fits the image of a lover of luxury who spends his free time sailing. The characteristic striping of the collection is inspired by the teak wooden decks of sailboats.

The tool watch-like roughness of Seamaster diver’s watches is conspicuous by its absence in Aqua Terra. While for some Omega fans the unadorned quality of the Seamaster is the core factor, for others the nobler materials and understated elegance of the Aqua Terra are factors that elevate the collection to a higher deck than the traditional Seamaster.

On the mechanical side, Aqua Terra has always been at the forefront of Omega’s development. The first Aqua Terra featured Omega’s chronometer-classified Caliber 2500 movement, which introduced a co-axial movement for the first time, which has been one of Omega’s best-known successes in movement development. After Omega introduced the METAS certificate, the Aqua Terra was among the first models to be upgraded with a Master Chronometer class movement.

A second to starboard towards new waters

Once again, it’s Aqua Terra’s turn to show where the wind is blowing in Omega’s watch design. The 2024 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra collection consists of 19 new watches, dominated as a style feature for the first time in Omega’s history by a small second dial and a date at six o’clock. A feature that will once again divide Omega fans like the prow of a Volvo Ocean Race race boat divides the Pacific Ocean.

Ten of the watches in the 2024 collection are 38 millimeters in diameter and nine are 41 millimeters in diameter. The collection includes both sportier models made of steel and luxury models made of Omega’s patented Sedna™ gold.

Aqua Terra’s signature feature from now on is precisely that separate small table for the seconds. Although some of the models still have a teak board, in the name of classic elegance it has had to give way in some models.

In models with a body diameter of 38 mm, it has been replaced by subtle radial grinding, which interestingly starts from the center of the small dial. The impression is impressive in its exceptionality. These models feature mother-of-pearl-decorated indexes that resemble the hull of a sailboat as a reference to the collection’s maritime heritage. Minimalism dresses the new Aqua Terra.

Some of the watches in the new collection are clearly aimed at Omega’s wealthy customer base. Taken to the extreme, this can be seen in the Sedna™ gold model, where the bezel is surrounded by diamonds and the dial is made of purple jade. Not everyone comes across something like this.

The watches with teak panels that look like the traditional Aqua Terra can be found in the new collection in the 41 millimeter size class. These models are clearly more sporty and you can see it in small things such as the seconds scale printed on the mounting ring and the numerals on the small dial.

However, sportiness does not exclude luxury, as the 41 millimeter is also available in full Sedna™ gold up to the bracelet. In the sportier 41 millimeter size class, the strap is mostly steel or rope-patterned rubber, while the more dress watch-like 38 millimeter ones are equipped with a luxurious leather strap instead of rubber.

All new Aqua Terros are powered by Omega’s METAS-certified Master Chronograph movement. Depending on the material of the watch, the mechanism bridges and draw weight are also made of gold as needed. The caliber number also changes with the size of the watch, but the specs are almost the same in all of them, co-axial movement device, 15,000 Gauss magnetic protection and everything that METAS certification brings with it. The steel movements (8802 and 8916) have a power reserve of 60 hours, and the Sedna™ gold ones (8803 and 8917) have a power reserve of 55 hours.

The cases of the watches are waterproof up to 150 meters. It wouldn’t have been a big problem for Omega to design watches even deeper, but the Aqua Terra is meant to be waterproof mainly for swimming trips from the deck of a sailboat.

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra shows a new direction for Omega. In the future, almost all models will be Master Chronometer certified, Omega’s material technology is at the top of the industry in its innovation. Aqua Terra’s new direction with its small boards is too small a step for Omega to be a real destination. However, it shows a new direction in the design language of the watch house and it will be interesting to see how far Omega will eventually go.
